Last updated: July 5, 2026
Welcome to When I Die ("we", "us", or the "Service"), the end-of-life planning tool on 1001 Nights. By accessing or using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Nature of the Service
When I Die is an end-of-life planning tool that helps users document personal wishes regarding medical care, body disposition, belongings, finances, and legacy items. The Service provides general informational guidance about legal frameworks in various jurisdictions. It does not provide legal, medical, financial, or professional advice.
2. Not Legal or Medical Advice
Content on this website, including jurisdiction-specific legal summaries, is for educational and planning purposes only. Laws vary by country, state, and locality and change over time. Consult appropriately qualified legal, medical, and financial professionals before relying on information from the Service. We do not guarantee that your documented wishes will be legally binding or enforceable.
3. User Accounts and Responsibilities
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential. You agree to provide accurate information and update your wishes as your circumstances change. You must not use the Service for unlawful purposes, impersonate others, or publish content that is defamatory, harassing, or infringes the rights of others.
4. Public Registry
If you publish your wish to the Public Registry, the profile information you select (such as your name, photo, country of residence, and age) and your wish details will be visible to anyone who visits the website. You may remove it from the registry at any time. We are not responsible for how third parties use information displayed publicly.
5. Privacy and Data
We store account and wish data to operate the Service. Uploaded photos and personal content remain your responsibility. We do not sell personal data. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security. You should avoid storing highly sensitive credentials or information not necessary for end-of-life planning.
6. Intellectual Property
The When I Die name, design, software, and original content are owned by us or our licensors. You retain ownership of the personal content you create. By publishing to the Public Registry, you grant us a non-exclusive license to display that content on the Service.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including family disputes about documented wishes or reliance on legal summaries provided through the Service.
9. Modifications
We may update these Terms at any time. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The "Last updated" date above will reflect material changes.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where the Service operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved by the courts with jurisdiction there, unless mandatory local law requires otherwise.
